|AUTUMN IN PUGLIA|
One of the most common questions asked of any overseas destination is which season is the best to visit? In many cases, the answer is tied to the weather, for example, the mountains of Switzerland are very beautiful in spring and summer but if the aim is skiing, then clearly winter is the best time to go. Likewise a beach holiday on the English riviera is only going to be successful if there is plenty of sun, which tends to mean high summer, even if the world weather patterns have gone a bit haywire recently.
In Puglia, and Salento in particular, the climate is rarely an issue and the season extends for so long that it is possible to take a swim in the sea in November without fear of frostbite! So the question of which season to visit comes down to personal preference. Autumn in Puglia has a lot going for it – fewer tourists, cooler evenings, thevendemmia (grape harvest), off-season prices, a great variety of autumn and early winter festivals and, of course, warm weather and an even warmer welcome from its friendly locals.
